Timid Language

Timid language is the use of language in a way as to appear meek or meagre. To put their argument in a way so that you are meant to sympathize with it or want to side with that argument. Other types of language that would fall into this category would be sympathetic language where the purpose of the language is to elicit sympathy toward the subject of the argument.

Hyperbolic Language

Hyperbolic language is primarily the use of metaphor or extreme language, to exaggerate an argument to a point where it cannot be argued against. The purpose of this is often to illicit responses where the audience is not questioning the argument being made. This type of argument also usually relies strongly on Ethos and Pathos while falling short on Logos.

Double Speak / New Speak

Double speak/ New speak is a concept that was first portrayed in George Orwell's 1984, in which one would speak in a way using double negatives or false statements that only those in the know would understand. While this is similar to deceitful language it is closer to obfuscating the truth rather than directly lying. New speak is often used as a way to get around language censors or communicate to specific individuals without informing those who are not informed about the type of language being used.

Deceitful Language

Deceitful language is the practice of lying. It is using dishonesty to argue for something you either know is untrue or are trying to convince another is true while lying about why said subject is actually true. For example one could lie about the reason for being late, but they could do so for many reasons, maybe the reason is overly personal and they do not wish to share, or it could be malicious or simply ignorant in nature. Deceit is often paired with a negative connotation and there is reason for this as language as established is a way to communicate and to communicate “truth value” but that does not mean it is all harmful in nature.
